halfquarter camp
80 acres (a half-quarter-section) of rural, off-grid Alabama land, in the Southern Inner Piedmont ecoregion, on the Tallapoosa River Basin, classified as Hardiness Zone 8a
This land has been in my family for about 40 years and has been mine to steward as I see fit since 2024. It's been largely left alone until now and – unlike most Atlanta-area greenspaces - that (so far) does not seem to mean it is overrun with invasive species. There are a few, however, and I am still working to assess what natives and invasives are on-site and what restoration and on-going management may be needed. And also unlike in suburban Atlanta, I'll be able to use prescribed burns to give the ecosystem the most natural conditions possible. The primary anthropocentric focus is currently backcountry camping, but plan to expand to off-grid homesteading and regenerative forest agriculture.
I am open to proposals for collaborative opportunities with this land, so please feel free to reach out.
